Blog 5- Vietnam War
The Vietnam War took place in an area known as Indochina a place with Indian and Chinese influences and descendants. Indochina was a number of French colonies such as Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Tonkin. This passage includes important documents stating events and turning points in the Vietnam war. The first source by The Origins of Vietnam states, “ Between 1946 and 1954, France fought a counterinsurgency campaign against the nationalist Viet Minh forces led by Ho Chi Minh. The United States assisted the French war effort with funds, arms, and advisors. They would go on to assist the French for seven out of the eight years of war, however, their efforts were not enough. On the eve of the Geneva Peace Conference in 1954, Viet Minh forces defeated the French army at Dien Bien Phu.” This would go on to split Vietnam into two types of government.
