Blog 10 - The Culture Wars

Bill Clinton ’ s campaign got off to a rocky start. 2 weeks after he announced his presidential bid, rumors of an affair took aim at his reputation , and almost ended his campaign. Nonetheless, he was able to defeat H.W Bush and Ross Perot .   Clinton was quick to outline his goals and vison for his term in office. A ddress ing Congress in 1993 saying: “ Our nation needs a new direction. Tonight, I present to you our comprehensive plan to set our nation on that new course. ” He also wanted to overhaul the American healthcare system . I n his same speech addressing cong ress he spoke about his goal for the healthcare system: “Later this spring, I will deliver to Congress a comprehensive plan for health care reform that will finally get costs under control.                                 Reagan's Diplomacy             Ronald Reagan has become infamous throughout American History for his ways of diplomacy. From hinting that the Soviet Union is evil to getting caught in a scandal he “had no part in”, you could say he was under fire during his reign of the presidency.           During the time Reagan gave the “Evil Empire” speech, he was making the Cold War relationship worse by acting aggressively toward the Soviet Union; hinting that they were evil communists without God. He also criticized the Soviet Union for its use of military and how it can’t afford to keep using weapons.      Tom Wolf's "The Me Decade" accurately describes the 1970s.  As Wolf points  that the 1970s was the time for the third great awaking and the 'Me decade'. Blog 5- Vietnam War

  The Vietnam War took place in an area known as Indochina a place with Indian and Chinese influences and descendants. Indochina was a number of French colonies such as Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Tonkin. This passage includes important documents stating events and turning points in the Vietnam war. The first source by The Origins of Vietnam states, “ Between 1946 and 1954, France fought a counterinsurgency campaign against the nationalist Viet Minh forces led by Ho Chi Minh.          In the years immediately following the second world war, relations between the Unites states government and Russians were tense. Top US officials were worried that Russia's parasitic communist ideas would spread and cause the many U.S. international economic and political relations to be destroyed. Therefore the United States government employed a containment policy geared toward the stopping of Russia’s influence.        These documents reveal that American life was very scary at the time for all Americans . With World War II seeming inevitable for the U.S American life did not seem to be getting any better.   African Americans were already fighting for fair employment wages and jobs which led to  The   Executive Order 8802 which allow ed Government positions and fair wages open to anyone , does not matter the “Race, creed, color, or national origin ” . Blog 2- The New Woman

    These 3 documents show "The New Woman" and the 1920's struggles and fights for freedom, independence, and education. It shows their lack of interest in men and marriage. During that time society limited woman from doing certain activities, and perusing their dreams. Society had oppressed women, and according to society, woman were to stay at home and do chores, and take care of their children, etc. This is covered by the document " Now We Can Begin" by Crystal Eastman. This document is about how woman should be fighting for their freedom, such as their freedom to vote. She wants woman to be a "free soul". She states that women will not be actually be seen as great until they achieve a certain emotional freedom. Until they can finally have equality and not be slaves of the homemaking.
