Blog 4- Containment

         In the years immediately following the second world war, relations between the Unites states government and Russians were tense. Top US officials were worried that Russia's parasitic communist ideas would spread and cause the many U.S. international economic and political relations to be destroyed. Therefore the United States government employed a containment policy geared toward the stopping of Russia’s influence.        These documents reveal that American life was very scary at the time for all Americans . With World War II seeming inevitable for the U.S American life did not seem to be getting any better.   African Americans were already fighting for fair employment wages and jobs which led to  The   Executive Order 8802 which allow ed Government positions and fair wages open to anyone , does not matter the “Race, creed, color, or national origin ” . Blog 2- The New Woman

    These 3 documents show "The New Woman" and the 1920's struggles and fights for freedom, independence, and education. It shows their lack of interest in men and marriage. During that time society limited woman from doing certain activities, and perusing their dreams. Society had oppressed women, and according to society, woman were to stay at home and do chores, and take care of their children, etc. This is covered by the document " Now We Can Begin" by Crystal Eastman. This document is about how woman should be fighting for their freedom, such as their freedom to vote. She wants woman to be a "free soul". She states that women will not be actually be seen as great until they achieve a certain emotional freedom. Until they can finally have equality and not be slaves of the homemaking.   From the 1890s to the early 19 th century the question of U.S.  colonial expansion was buzzing around the heads of people in America. This question was ans wered by two separate groups that had opposing viewpoints about the U.S. havi ng colonies. Imperialists were those in America that wanted to expand into the new island territories. In this group, there were those who wanted to expand for economic reasons, such as Charles Conant .  He believed that by acquiring these colonies, specifically those in Asia, the U.S. would be able to expand its economy by reaching eastern markets .   In his essay “The Economic Basis of Imperialism” he states that “The United States cannot afford to adhere to a policy of isolation while other nations are reaching out for the command of these new markets....
